Technical assessment of decentralised solar irrigation at smallholder scale — system sizing, water source suitability and adoption economics — feeding a national financing instrument.

The assessment covered decentralised solar irrigation for smallholder farmers across three dimensions that are usually studied apart: system sizing, water source suitability and the economics of adoption at farm scale. Treating them together is what determines whether a pump that works technically is a pump a farmer will actually buy and run.

The findings fed the Investment Plan for Financing Solar-Powered Irrigation in Ghana, linking a field-level technology assessment directly to a national financing instrument — the step most technology assessments never take.
